Learning from CinemaBlend, who was able to visit the set for the currently-filming Justice League, there will be an abundance of new costumes designed by Michael Wilkinson. The costume designer has done costumes for quite a few Zack Snyder films in the past, including Watchmen, 300, Sucker Punch, and Man of Steel.
With that said, he’ll be including two new costumes for Batman in the new movie. The first suit is “The Classic Bat Suit”.
The suit that Bruce Wayne will wear for most of the film won’t be too different from his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice suit. The biggest addition to this suit is the addition of armor plates under the carbon-fiber of the suit. They’re very noticeable in the stomach and chest areas, and exist to aid him in the heat of battle. According to Wilkinson:
“One new detail is that Zack wanted a little more sense of armor and deflection on his gauntlets when he is shot at, and so I designed these [gloves] that are kind of based on the samurai. We know from Bruce Wayne’s history that he studied martial arts in Japan, so I thought that could be appropriate. But we sort of modernized it with a Wayne Tech aesthetic here. It’s a little more aggressive.”
There’s also a new cowl which, although similar-looking on the outside, will feature a variety of new technological features and benefits. Of course, these won’t be the only gadgets he’ll need, and why the caped crusader will be using a second suit in the film – “The Tactical Bat Suit”.
This suit won’t be used for at least another two months, and is still in the prototype phase, although Wilkinson suggests that is offers “more protection” for Batman. It has more armor than the previous suit and yet layered in such a way to look more sleek and streamlined.
A big difference between the suits is that one had the addition of goggles that Batman would use to pilot a new vehicle. Wilkinson then explained:
“We loved the way, in the comic books, that Batman’s always drawn with these white flashes for eyes. So we played around with ways of doing that, and realized that they could sort of catch the light, to call to mind that classic age from the comic books.”
It could be possible that the goggles will be necessary for Batman’s new Nightcrawler or team-transporting Flying Fox vehicle, but there may be more vehicles in the upcoming film for him to choose from.
Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017.
