Independence Day: Resurgence director Roland Emmerich revealed to The Guardian on his peculiar opinion on Marvel movies.
You’d think the guy behind huge explosions in his films would be behind some of the superhero film genres, especially with the love of explosions and battle very evident in both. However, it appears he’s got his nose pointed up with his view. In fact, he’s “filled with distain” that his films are actually related to them:
“When you look at my movies it’s always the regular Joe Schmo that’s the unlikely hero. A lot of Marvel movies, they show people in funny suits running around. I don’t like people in capes. I find it silly when someone dons a superhero suit and flies. I don’t understand it. I grew up in Germany, that’s probably why.”
Then again, this is the same man who is known for films like 2012 and Independence Day – defnitely films that you can’t say aren’t over the top without a straight face…
Independence Day: Resurgence comes out this Friday.
