The record comes from BoxOfficeMojo at 330.36 million in America, with the international add of 542.3 million. The total figure of 872.6 million is the final recording for theatrical run.
With close to a billion dollars, it’s by no means a horrible figure of dollars for a film, but considering the two most prolific comic icons involved, you’d imagine fans and distributors alike would have expected a leaping amount in comparison. It might have also been heavily factored by the pacing and negative reviews that stormed it.
In addition, this might be the call to action that Warner Bros has been adjusting since the opening of the film and its reception. Geoff Johns being called as the new head of DC Films, Suicide Squad‘s additional action reshoots, Rick Famuyiwa replacing Seth Grahame-Smith as director for The Flash, and even Ben Affleck‘s progression to wanting to fix it as the executive producer of Justice League, all while drifting director Zack Snyder to a more shadowed role than the massive control he had before.
So it seems Warner Bros is at least trying to at least push this the better direction for their franchise in their view. Whether it will fill the gap for them or not in the battle for the comic movie will be up to time.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be out with its unrated cut July 19th, 2016, the film Zack Snyder meant for us to see.
