A Godzilla fansite titled Skreeonk released our first look at concept art from the all-new Godzilla: Resurgence. The movie is Japanese company Toho’s first Godzilla feature since Godzilla: Final Wars in 2004.
The artist behind the concept art is Mahiro Maeda, an artist best known for his animation work according to Skreeonk. The site acquired this concept art from submissions by a fan who has apparently gained early access to the August book The Art of Shin Godzilla Resurgence.
This isn’t the first time details from the film were leaked, however, as the design for the new Godzilla was unofficially released several times before Toho’s teaser trailer for the film gave the first official look. It should definitely end up being a movie that satisfies hardcore fans of the past movies, excluding the 1998 live-action movie, of course. Well, I mean, who wouldn’t exclude that one?
Godzilla: Resurgence is an attempt for Toho to reboot the Godzilla franchise for Japanese audiences, allowing both the American and Japanese franchises to coexist. This also means that Resurgence will be released to U.S. theaters before Universal and Legendary’s next American Godzilla installment. And eventually the American Godzilla series will crossover with the new King Kong reboot, Kong: Skull Island.
Godzilla: Resurgence is scheduled for release in Japanese theaters on July 29, 2016.
Will you be watching Godzilla: Resurgence when it’s released? What do you think of the concept art? Are you looking forward to the upcoming Godzilla movie? Be sure to tell us all of your thoughts in the comment section!
