When the brand new Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland made this debut in this years Captain America: Civil War it’s was met with almost unanimous praise from fans, however it sounds as though there was portion of people who weren’t impressed with wallcrawler and no, I’m not talking about DC fans.
It turns out it’s the Russians who have taken issue with Spidey, which is surprising when the main character is a walking American flag. The reason behind their disapproval isn’t to do with the character, but mainly the voice actor chosen to dub over Tom Holland’s dialogue. Fans describe the dub as being ‘too young‘ with much of quips falling flat due to the actors ‘childish tone‘.
To right this wrong, Russian fans have taken to change.org to create a petition urging film executives to consider changing the voice actor for future appearances. Neva, the company behind the Russian dubbing have defended their decision with a statement explaining ‘was a student of a theater school and [that] his voice was approved by the production company’.
It’s unsure just whether this petition will have any effect although it’s currently well on it’s way to its 1500 signature goal. This setback certainly hasn’t stopped the film from raking in over $16 Million in the territory. Despite this setback it hasn’t stopped the film from raking in over $16 Million in the territory. Hopefully the issue is resolved before the characters next appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming when it hits theaters next year.
What do you think? Do you think this will have an effect on future Spider-Man films? Do you think Holland should just learn Russian? Let us know below!
