Another day, another wrestler trying to get into comic book films. Last week it was Adam “Edge” Copeland, adding his name to the (long) list of actors interested in playing Cable in Deadpool’s upcoming sequel.
Now, we have Stephen Farrelly, aka Sheamus, putting his name out there for a role, and it’s a juicy one. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows star is gunning for one iconic villain.
“I’ve always wanted to play Venom, from Spider-Man,” Farrelly told Digital Spy, when asked what other roles he was interested in. “I always read comic books as a kid, and I always remembered Eddie Brock, who was Venom in the Spider-Man comics. I’d love to play the role of Venom and Eddie Brock. Venom is one of my favorite characters.”
While the jury is still out on his acting skills, it sounds like love for the character is certainly there. We’ll have to wait and see how well he plays henchman Rocksteady in TMNT – which is a role he’d be happy to reprise.
“Absolutely, I’d love to!” he enthused. “I had so much fun doing this movie, I’d love to have the opportunity to do another one.”
At 6’4, 267, he’s almost identical to Venom’s 6’3, 260. And his massive size would allow him to look properly terrifying in symbiote form next to Tom Holland’s 5’8 Peter Parker. Throw in his newly acquired mocap experience, having played both the human and the CGI sides of Rocksteady, and it sounds like something Marvel should consider.
What do you think of this possibility? And if you’ve seen TMNT, what is your opinion of Farrelly’s skill level in front of the camera? Let us know in the comments!
