The newest Friday the 13th film, which is supposed to be the 13th film in the series, has seen a lot of bumps and scrapes during its development.
It’s had a lot of directors and writers attached, shifted between studios, and then had multiple scripts thrown away in hopes of something better. And it looks like Platinum Dunes may have found it.
Aaron Guzikowski, the writer for the movie Prisoners, was finally able to develop and send his script to Platinum Dunes this month. This means that they may very well meet their release date which has been delayed several times and is currently set for January 13, 2017.
The Reel Word also managed to speak with Platinum Dunes’ Brad Fuller, who was able to shed a little more light on the project.
“Aaron’s story has great characters,” Fuller stated before going a little more into the film’s story. “You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward.”
Fuller also managed to say that the film will be “origin-ish”, albeit with “an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.”
It looks like the film is going to involve more of the lore that the franchise has to offer while presenting it in a new, fresh way – something the franchise could use if done right and not ridiculously like with Jason Goes To Hell or Jason X.
Jason returns to theaters on January 13, 2017.
