From a box office standpoint, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice did a stellar job. But if you ask a critic, they’ll tell you otherwise. We all knew that, though.
What we didn’t know was that one of the actors of the film agrees with the critics. Jeremy Irons is the newest to take on the role of Alfred Pennyworth, Batman’s man-servant, and Bruce Wayne’s father-figure. Irons (Lion King, Die Hard: With a Vengeance) spoke with fellow U.K. fellows DailyMail.
As the film “took a kicking,” he was asked if it deserved such. In which he answered:
“Deservedly so. I mean it took £800 million, so the kicking didn’t matter but it was sort of overstuffed……It was very muddled. I think the next one will be simpler. The script is certainly a lot smaller, it’s more linear.”
The “next one” he’s talking about is Justice League. At least Part One will still be written and directed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Sucker Punch, 300), the same guy behind the bashed film in question. If Irons says the script is a lot smaller, I’ll believe him; but with much skepticism. If Batman v Superman was “overstuffed,” only having three heroes, I wonder how a flick with seven heroes will be any less.
What I do know is that Snyder has compared BvS to Empire Strikes Back, in terms of grittiness and the middle of a story.
Catch Justice League: Part One in theaters November 17, 2017, in which Irons will reprise his role. And lets cross our fingers that the R-rated, hopefully less “muddled,” cut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will also hit theaters.
