Marvel and DC are the two household names of the comic and superhero industry now, with fans and even the companies themselves pitting each other in competition or team-up. We’ve already seen universal fights, unlikely crossovers such as Punisher and Batman or Spider-man and Superman, even Amalgam’s fused characters like Dark Claw (Batman and Wolverine) have taken nods to the greatness of both properties.
Being that the movies are the new big thing with the superhero and comic book genre, it’s growing debatable if we’ll ever see that possibility in the film universe. With the question many film goers and comic fans alike have, will it ever happen?
During his panel at Megacon, Stan “The Man” Lee did bring up his thoughts on a possible collaboration on the silver screen:
Well, you know, that would really be terrific. We did a Spider-Man vs. Superman comic book years ago — a big, giant-sized book which sold really well, and I had Spider-Man win. I don’t think there will ever be a movie like that only because of the lawyers and the businessmen and the contracts. They’d never be able to figure out who gets what and whose name comes first…but if they ever could do it, man, I think everybody would want to see that.”
But you know what they say, money talks. People didn’t believe Sony would let Spider-man off the hook for Marvel, yet it still happened. Maybe down the line it may, but looking like not for a long while.
In the meantime, Marvel’s personal crossover extravaganza, Captain America: Civil War, is still out in theaters now.
