Despite the devastating cancellation of Marvel’s Agent Carter, female leads are far from gone from Marvel’s plans, as Jessica Jones is gaining praise and another season to follow.
Nerdist sat down with Melissa Rosenberg, showrunner of Jessica Jones, and was asked about how Season 1’s set-up will follow suit for the upcoming future:
That’s the trick of a show called Jessica Jones. If she’s not in the scene, it’s not a guarantee that scene will end up in the final picture. You have to earn secondary character stories. You have to flesh them out enough so they can eventually carry stories of their own, which is very much what season one was about.”
From the sound of it, Season 2 will allow further development for the side characters than just relying the focus on Jessica and her path away from Kilgrave. Fans can be in hopes to see more moments of Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), Malcolm Ducasse (Eka Darville) and Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss). Especially the case with Trish’s story, it may seem in no time Hellcat may be emerging.
Daredevil followed suit previously with such an entrance, with fan favorite vigilantes Punisher (John Bernthal) and Elektra (Elodie Yung) taking focus to the stage, as well as stronger presence to Foggy (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). We can only be patient as to what’s to come for Jessica Jones, but with a creative team behind this, we can only imagine this fleshed-out journey being a good one, especially in time for the build-up of The Defenders.
