Palahniuk has a very impressive collection of stories that have gathered a very strong cult following. So much so that it spawned two films (Fight Club and Choke) and many others have been in development for years. While speaking to Comic Book Resources about his 10-issue series of Fight Club 2, Palahniuk let it slip that his novel Snuff was being adapted for the small screen.
“‘Snuff’ has been in development for a while,” Palahniuk revealed. “They just got financing from StudioCanal for producing it as a television series. So they’re producing a season’s worth of episodes for a series based on ‘Snuff.’”
The novel follows longtime porn legend Cassie Wright as she decides to retire from the industry. In order for her to go out in a big way, she’s going to set the record with the most partners in bed by having a marathon-style (or sex-athon) with 600 different. The story also follows bedmates Mr. 600, Mr. 72, Mr. 137 and Cassie’s personal assistant Sheila.
Snuff was to be made into a film in 2012 but nothing came of it pass the planning stage. A series for TV does work as it would allow for the story to be explored and not rushed since the topics of the novel deal with sex work, incest, mutilation and self-destruction. My guess is that this show would be an excellent home for HBO.
