Every once in a while, there is news that comes along that everyone is excited about. This – this is one of those days. Netflix has officially agreed to order a series for The Punisher, after the great reception the character received for Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil. I’d also like to point out that we initially covered this before everyone else.
Here’s what Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb had to say:
“We want to thank the fans who are clamoring for more of Jon’s stunning and powerful performance as Frank Castle from ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, “Now combined with Showrunner Steve Lightfoot’s compelling writing, we’re thrilled to bring ‘Marvel’s The Punisher’ to Netflix.”
Executive Producer Steve Lightfoot added:
“For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner, Steve Lightfoot. “After watching Jon’s performance in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.”
Here’s hoping the series will keep the same gritty and dark tone of Daredevil, but if they went that violent on Daredevil, we’re guessing The Punisher series is going to be on a whole different level in terms of blood and gore – and we’re open to that. Just make sure it’s not as awfully executed as Punisher: War Zone was.
Now if we could just get a Dredd series…
