It sounds as though Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s reception may have caused Warner Brothers to think twice about their future plans if a new report is anything to go by.
A recent article from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the studio is looking to green light ‘fewer homegrown movies’ while focusing instead on it’s franchise features, namely ‘DC Comics, Lego and a planned franchise spun off from the Harry Potter series’. This news comes just days after reports that Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice suffered a 69% drop in audience revenue on its second weekend in theaters as well as previous under performers Jupiter Ascending, Pan and In the Heart of the Sea.
A rep from Warner Brothers has stated however that:
“Warner Bros. has historically had the biggest, most diverse slate in the motion picture industry, We did last year, we will this year, and we will continue to do so into the foreseeable future.”
So perhaps there may not be as much truth in the report as first assumed.
Interestingly, Warner Brothers yesterday added an extra two untitled D.C. to its upcoming slate.
