Numerous fans of Superman felt his projection and role was pushed to second fiddle in favor of Batman and Wonder Woman for the new DC film “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice”. However, they may be in for a surprise that a solo film sequel for him is still being considered, and with perhaps a stronger representation of the iconic hero.
Director Zack Snyder spoke to IGN in regards to the future of a Man of Steel sequel, stating enthusiasm and that the opportunity was still on the table:
“I think if we could get a good script it’d be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do.”
The current actor for Superman, Henry Cavill, also mentions he would be all in for that opportunity, but addresses he understands the business practice Warner Bros. is trying to hold with the planning of DCEU’s vast world.
“I do believe it depends upon the success of this movie. If this goes well, then we can start negotiating with Warner Bros. to develop a standalone Superman, but they’ve got their plans set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies, so it’s about finding the time really. It’s something I’d be very keen to do.”
Snyder has confirmed that the Batman V Superman film is the major point to further expand on the rest of DC’s Theatrical Universe, and with its importance for the future of projects, it may take a while to have the focus regained towards Superman.
“Part of the reason we haven’t announced the stand alone Superman movie at this time was to support some of the events of this film.”
*******SPOILER ALERT*******
Perhaps with the climax and ending of Batman V Superman resembling the story arc of “The Death of Superman”, it would likely make sense for the formula of the next film to represent the story of “The Return of Superman”, since the last few snippets of the film suggests the period of the healing coma is taking place. Only time will tell for the future of the Man of Steel.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is currently out in theaters, with an Uncut Blu-Ray release this summer.
The film’s synopsis: It’s been nearly two years since Superman’s (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.
