When it was released back in 2013, Man of Steel faced several criticisms, the two most common that fans took offence to seemed to be Superman’s snapping General Zod’s neck and the destruction that was inflicted upon the city of metropolis. Something which director Zack Snyder has spoken about in a recent interview.
Snyder, in a recent interview for Wired magazine elaborated on this issue, revealing that:
“To me, the killing of Zod is not as big a deal as the destruction of Metropolis. It’s important that these movies have consequences, that there is collateral damage. In Batman v Superman I wanted to show how Bruce Wayne feels when reduced to a sideline sitter. Batman is frightened by his impotence in the face of that.”
It certainly seems like this is going to be the crux of the conflict between the two titular characters, based on what we have already seen revealed in the films trailers released so far. You would also have thought that the destruction of their homes would certainly be more of an issue to the people of metropolis than the death of the evil alien warlord, hell bent on destroying the planet.
We’ll see how it all fits together when Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice hits our screens later this month.
