After all the news and rumors about Deadpool in the past few weeks, it’s time to start speculating about the important aspects of what we have in store for us for Deadpool’s cinematic future. Will Deadpool 2 come out in 2018? Will Domino be in it? Who will play Cable? Will Deadpool have a crossover with the X-Men? Will he be in X-Force? But out of all those questions, there is one that burns more brightly and more passionately than any other:
Who’s Deadpool going to be shacking up with in his next appearances?
This would seem like a simple question, considering the love story that concluded at the end of the movie. But it isn’t! Anything could happen in any of Deadpool’s future appearances. We just never know, you know? So here’s a list of several different candidates for Deadpool’s dating pleasure; there is no evidence of whether or not Deadpool will end up with any of them, or whether any of them will actually appear in any of the movies, but we are still going to speculate about it just because.
Here’s the run-down of possibilities:
Vanessa
She’s not exactly a superhero in Deadpool, which usually seems to hamper love interests in sequels, but she is the current girlfriend of Deadpool and did a fine job in the movie at being pretty awesome. And it also turns out that her character is, in fact, a mutant known as Copycat. She displayed absolutely no traits of it in the movie, but seeing as Deadpool wrecked Weapon X, and Weapon X is involved in Copycat’s story, there could be some interesting stuff happening in future movies.
She’s the most likely candidate, since she is already attached to Deadpool. So yeah.
Wolverine
Wolverine is bisexual in the comics, but that’s never been shown in the movies, since his three separate love interests have all been ladies. Seeing as Wolverine’s time in the X-Men Universe seems to be winding down, Fox may try to spice things up and send Deadpool his way.
Since Deadpool had a near-obsession with Hugh Jackman/Wolverine in the movie, it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to see Deadpool chasing after Wolverine, if they ever appear together in the same film. But would Wolverine eventually reciprocate? Probably not. But we’ll have to see.
Iceman
This one is a cheap shot in the dark and probably won’t happen. Iceman isn’t in X-Men Apocalypse, and probably won’t be in the currently-unscheduled New Mutants movie either. But luckily for Deadpool, those movies are apparently taking place in the past, and Deadpool’s story takes place in the present, which, as we saw at the end of Days of Future Past, is bright and sunny and has a grown-up Iceman ready to reappear in Deadpool 2 if need be.
Iceman came out of the closet in the comics recently, and his actor Shawn Ashmore said he wants to play a gay Iceman in a future movie. Could Deadpool be the one to help make it happen? Shrug.
Deadpool and Iceman haven’t really ever had any sort of “thing” in the comics as far as I’ve been able to find; they’ve probably fought a couple times but that’s it. So there isn’t much of a source material precedent for it, though it’s not like they can’t make their own original story if they so choose.
Outlaw
She hasn’t appeared in the movies before and isn’t an incredibly popular character, but she is certainly a very common character in Deadpool’s many comics.
For those that don’t know her, Outlaw is a mutant with minor strength and healing powers. She’s a Texan and has all the stereotypical cowboy elements about her, which could make for an interesting partnership with Deadpool. She also has a long history with the character Agent X, who is another character in Deadpool’s long history that could be brought up again for a sequel.
Cable
Could it happen?
Would they dare?
It feels almost like breaking some sort of sacred pact to take the greatest pair in superhero comics, and make them… uh, a pair. But there’s always the possibility that Fox and the others behind Deadpool 2 and the other X-Men movies decide to ramp things up and do it anyway. Cable is the most likely character out of these to appear in numerous future X-Men movies (and is almost certainly cast in X-Force), so it would make the most logistical sense, since Deadpool and Cable will be together for more movies than most others.
But still… Would they really do it?
