When Daredevil premiered on Netflix last April, it took the world by storm. Reviews were strong and word of mouth led to millions of Netflix subscribers tuning in. It didn’t take long for Daredevil to be renewed for a second season. With the release of Daredevil’s second season less than a month away, reviews of the first seven episodes are beginning to roll in. While it sounds like it isn’t perfect by any means, fans of the first season shouldn’t be disappointed.
“While it’s established that the milieu is essentially R-rated territory, the beginning is so dark and brooding as to border on self-parody, with the Punisher portrayed almost as a Terminator, maiming and inflicting enough torture to feel like a Tarantino homage.” – Variety
“Starting with the third and fourth episodes, though, the characters come into focus (and Bernthal, happily, finally gets some dialogue). Moreover, there’s an extended fight sequence in a stairwell that’s one of the more impressive action pieces this relatively modestly budgeted endeavor has produced.” – Den of Geek
“The good news is that if you enjoyed the first season, Marvel’s Daredevil season 2 is a return to nearly everything that brought you into the fold in the first place. We have a perfectly cast core of leads, some extraordinary new characters (more on them in a minute), and a more cinematic look than some of Marvel Studios’ big screen efforts.” – NerdRepository
“While we can’t reveal any specific plot details, Bernthal was born for this role. The iconic Marvel Comics character Frank Castle aka The Punisher isn’t exactly a stretch for Bernthal, having played similar characters in Fury and The Walking Dead, but the talented actor nails the grim focus and unhinged nature of the murderous anti-hero.”
It seems that even with some faults, there’s a consensus that Bernthal is the main attraction of the first seven episodes.
All 13 episodes of Daredevil season 2 will premiere on Netflix on March 18th.
