Well that didn’t take long. Deadpool may not even be out but that hasn’t stopped Fox from already greenlighting the sequel, and it looks like the character won’t be alone.
The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, who reveal that while writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are already on board, Director Tim Miller has yet to sign on, although they do say that Fox are looking to keep the creative team together. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, I suppose.
At the same time, a report from ComicBook.com reveals that Deadpool’s longtime partner in crime Cable will be joining the films sequel when it’s released. Many fans were hoping for Cable from the moment the film was announced, so this will certainly come as good news for them.
With the film currently tracking to make upwards of $70 Million dollars when it opens this weekend and the positive reviews it has been garnering, it makes sense for Fox to green light the sequel so early. Perhaps it can take the space of the Fantastic Four Sequel – because we all know that isn’t coming.
