When concept art was released, it showed plans of Beebop, Rocksteady, and Krang’s inclusion in the first movie. Though they were scrapped, set pics soon revealed that Beebop and Rocksteady would certainly make their way into the sequel. But the question on everyone’s mind was if they were going to mutate into a warthog and rhino. The first trailer answered that question, but it also raised another.
Though it reminded us of Shredder’s threat, while acquiring the aid of Beebop, Rocksteady, and Baxter Stockman, it also teased another, yet more looming threat. What were these invading ships? Fans of the original cartoon will remember that Krang was the supreme ruler of Dimension X, commanding from his Technodrome. Shell, fans of the new cartoon will tell you that “The Kraang” are an evil alien race from Dimension X.
But those who read the Mirage Comics will tell you that there was an alien race whom resembled Krang called The Utroms. If you hadn’t put your hands on those old books, you might remember them from the cartoon of the early 2000’s. If you’re familiar with The Utroms, you’ll know that they were actually friendly, and not from Dimension X. The new movie looks to snatch its nostalgia from the 80’s/90’s cartoon. After all, that’s where Beebop and Rocksteady are from. Whoopi Goldberg even played a gender-bent version of April’s boss, Bern Thompson.
The last trailer had been “Tricky.” But this new one ails us with “No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn.” Or at least until June 3rd, when it hits theaters.
