Gremlins was a 1984 dark comedy about a young man who gets a strange creature for a present, which leads him to unwillingly unleash a breed of monsters on his town.
It was immensely successful because of its strong characters, beautiful soundtrack, and terrific use of practical effects. And six years later, in 1990, it finally received a sequel – Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
Ever since then the series has been quiet, with news and rumors of a third film occasionally popping up. And in a world where reboots are the norm, talk of a new Gremlins movie has become especially popular.
Most recently writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift have been thrown into the mix, releasing the first two pages for their rejected Gremlins script which uses a plane crash as their opening sequence.
This goes in line with the Gremlins mythology, because The Twilight Zone series and movie have had scenes with gremlins attacking planes. And even earlier, the idea for the monster originated when pilots suggested the little beasts would sabotage their planes.
Damian Shannon and Mark Swift were best known for writing Freddy vs. Jason and the 2009 reboot of Friday the 13th, so they’re no stranger to the Horror genre. You can read the first two pages of their Gremlins script below:
