Despite Marvel only just being relaunched as the All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe, the company is already planning its first major event, and it looks like not everyone one is getting out of it.
There will be SPOILERS ahead.
Last month it was reported that the upcoming event Civil War II, would see the demise of both Tony Starks loyal friend, James Rhodes and Jennifer Walters AKA She-Hulk, something which may be true if their placement on the cover of Civil War II #0 is anything to go by. They seem to be an odd choice to feature on the cover were this not the case:
Along with the released cover art, we were also given some insight into the event by Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. He explained:
“There’s a reason that Carol is a part of the opposition forces. It not only speaks to her character, but her new role in the Marvel universe. She’s the leader of Alpha Flight, which is Earth’s first line of defense from all incursions. As of today, she is a very powerful authoritative figure in the Marvel universe. Having been involved in the initial architecture of the story, and given Tony Stark’s involvement in the story, it made perfect sense for [Bendis] to write it.”
He also made a revelation which is likely to confirm many people’s suspicions that the event only came about to coincide with the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. He explained:
“This was not like [the first] Civil War or Secret Wars, where we planned for a couple of years. We’ve been planning this for maybe three or four months.”
We’ll find out whether this more than a mere cash grab when Civil War #1 is released in June.
