Can you believe ‘Titanic’ is almost 19 years old already? It only feels like yesterday when I stood in a long freezing human chain outside the old picture house preparing to witness the sinking of RMS Titanic for myself, albeit through the eyes of Terminator director James Cameron at least.
Amidst the awe and human emotion that drove the last act of the movie (and come on, it was intense!) one thing never truly sat right with me, did Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) really need to stay submerged in that freezing 28 °F water? Of course he was quite the gentleman but it all seemed a bit unnecessary to me.
Despite being debunked by Discovery Channel’s ‘MythBusters’ in 2012 (proving it was very possible for both Jack & Rose to float together) that question has remained a mystery to those involved in the 1997 blockbuster …until now.
Kate Winslet appeared on Monday’s Jimmy Kimmel show promoting her new heist movie ‘Triple 9’. During the interview Kimmel jokingly remarked, “You let him freeze to death in the water,” leading to “There was plenty of room on the raft.”
“I know, I know. I agree” Winslet replied, ending the decades of speculation, “I think he could have actually fitted on that bit of door.”
So there you have it, Jack could have made it and James Cameron’s vision for multiple sequels in the Titanic universe could have been realized. But at least we still get more Avatar movies to look forward to …I suppose.
Here’s an interesting picture:
And here’s the video:
‘Triple 9’ opens February 26, 2016, ‘Avatar 2’ on the other hand…
What do you think? Could Jack have survived? Sound off below!
