Another television series based on a pre-existing horror franchise has had a pilot ordered, and this time it takes The Exorcist to the small screen.
It was announced by Deadline that Rupert Wyatt, the director of 2011’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, will direct the hour-long pilot which features two men following a family’s case of demonic possession – a modern reinvention inspired by the original book by William Peter Blatty and the film directed by William Friedkin.
The Exorcist was a financial and critical success in the 1970’s, and helped spark the possession sub-genre that’s ever popular in today’s horror movies. It only makes sense that Fox would want to use the name for a new TV series in a time when horror-themed television is exploding.
