In 2009, when Marvel was bought by Disney, people on the internet freaked out at the horrifying possibilities. They were worried that Marvel would be kiddified or turned into another brand to be locked inside the Disney Vault, to be relegated to a world in the next Kingdom Hearts. But by the time Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, people on the internet cheered. In 2016, now that we’ve seen the result of Disney’s treatment of the property, people on the internet are more excited than ever.
Now, people on the internet are able to dream up scenarios that people never could have imagined possible just five years ago. Stan Lee, when asked about a Star Wars/Avengers crossover, said this:
“We can have as many characters join the Avengers as we want to for future movies. That might be fun too – all of a sudden Luke Skywalker is an Avenger!”
While it will probably never happen and this is just a massive pipe dream, Stan Lee seems certain that a crossover does have the ABILITY to happen.
Furthermore, he also said that an X-Men/Avengers crossover could easily happen, despite the issue with rights:
“It’ll be the most expensive film ever produced! But anything that the public want to see you can be sure it will eventually be produced.” But that’s a story for another time.
