There seems to be a new plausible theory about Star Wars’s Supreme Leader Snoke every week. He’s Darth Plagueis, Darth Vader, Palpatine, Jar Jar Binks, Darth Bane, Leia, Luke, Maz Kanata… The list goes on. Probably somewhere, someone wrote a long, detailed post about how Ki-Adi Mundi survived Episode III and is in fact Snoke himself.
This time, the theory is that Grand Moff Tarkin is actually Supreme Leader Snoke. Like all of these theories, it seems completely unexpected and wildly stupid, but it does have some evidence that could suggest it being true.
First of all, the theory assumes that Tarkin somehow survived the destruction of the Death Star. That, uh, seems very difficult, but after you get that out of the way, it starts making a little more sense. Snoke is badly damaged, with scars and a somewhat-deformed face. He is apparently a very experienced leader as he is able to command the First Order, and General Hux looks up to him.
He apparently is the one that tempted Kylo Ren to the Dark Side, but never uses the force, and it is never suggested that he is a force-user. Since Kylo Ren is a member of the Knights of Ren and that group does not seem to be affiliated with the Sith, it would make some sense that Snoke is not affiliated with the force at all, and only psychologically manipulated the boy.
So Tarkin could have somehow survived Episode IV, survived past the Emperor’s death in Episode VI, and is now carrying out his final wishes. It actually sounds pretty reasonable, honestly. Not that it’s true.
