Today’s the day that Jessica Jones finally makes its way onto our screens, but long before it found it’s home on Netflix, it was going to be on ABC and it would have featured one of Earths Mightiest in a prominent role. The series, much like the comic series it was based on would have seen Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel as Jessica Jones’ friend and confidant, a role now taken by Patsy Walker.
In an interview with IGN, Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg revealed:
“Back when it was at ABC Network, I did use Carol Danvers, But between then and when it ended up on Netflix, you know, the MCU shifted, and it also shifted away from the universe in the [comic] book. So in the book, the powers are very out in the open and the themes of that are about ‘the other,’ and in the cinematic universe that’s not the mythology. So there was a lot that I had to move away from, just in terms of sheer plot, and Carol Danvers got her own movie.”
But luckily as mentioned earlier, We had a replacement on hand and it seems she may have been a better fit as Rosenberg elaborates:
“But as it turned out, Patsy Walker ended up being an incredibly—a much more appropriate fit with Jessica. It was better that her best friend was not someone with powers. It actually ends up being a really great mirror for her.”
A crossover of this type would have been a great way of connecting the universe to the cinematic side in a big way. Perhaps after Danvers has been established in future, we may see a team up of the two ladies either in film or on Netflix.
What do you think? Would you have preferred to have Danvers in the show? Are you hoping we see Hellcat in action? Let us know below!
