Today is a big day for fans of the Alien franchise, with the latest film in the franchise getting not only a title change – but also a brand new synopsis.
The Prometheus sequel was previously titles Alien: Paradise Lost but will now be known as Alien: Covenant. Along with this new title, Fox also released the following synopsis for the film:
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
It’s interesting that Michael Fassbender that appears to be returning but not Noomi Rapace, who was last seen jetting off towards Paradise. It should also be noted that they mention that it’s the second in the trilogy, does that mean the third film is confirmed.
Alien: Covenant is set to be released October 6th, 2017.
