Olivia Wilde is the latest actress to throw her hat into the ring for the coveted role of Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel.
When suggested for the role by fans, the Tron: Legacy actress took to Twitter to respond, posting the following:
“Oh hell yea. Let’s DO this. I’m starting my Marvel diet immediately. Eggshells and jet fuel only, right?’ Before later joking ‘Who says indie kids can’t go pro?”
Later, when speaking to Cinema Blend, the actress revealed the following:
“I’m a big fan of superhero films, and I have so much respect for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
However, she isn’t completely satisfied with the way female heroes are portrayed:
“The thing with female superheroes is that, in order to be powerful, they are flawless, I think the way these Marvel heroes are written, the female superheroes included, do have complexity and flaws. But I think when they are translated into film, the women can become these ultimate goddesses of perfection, and I would love to create a female Marvel character who is just as unexpected and complex as some of the male characters, as Iron man. I think that would be really cool!”
With the upcoming Jessica Jones series looking like another success for Marvel, we may find that these flawed female characters may become more common in comic book film and TV.
What do you think? Would she make a good Danvers? Is there somebody else you have in mind? Let us know below!
