It sounds like love is in the air for the members of the Suicide Squad. Well for two of the members at least. Speaking to Empire Magazine, Deadshot actor, Will Smith revealed:
“Harley is the biggest troublemaker, but Deadshot’s actually eyeballing her a little bit,” he said. “There’s a pretty ragged romantic triangle there.”
It sounds like he may be treading on the toes of The Clown Prince of Crime – something which won’t end well…
This isn’t the first time a romance has blossomed between the two, with it featuring in the 2014 animated film Assault on Arkham and on the pages of the New 52 Suicide Squad. These comparisons also seem to fall in line with the comments director David Ayer made about the Harley Quinn character in the latest Empire:
“It’s about her breaking free of The Joker and becoming this fully actualized, independent person,” he said. “That really is a metaphor for everyone’s journey here.”
Smith also revealed some details about how Lawton ends up in the custody of Waller:
“As the movie opens, he has a really big score, He’s looking to turn over a new leaf with his daughter after the hit, but it goes wrong. It goes terribly, terribly wrong, And it lands him in Belle Reve for life.”
In the film:
It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
