A report from the website Heroic Hollywood asserts that there are three directors in the running to get behind the camera for Fox’s “Gambit” solo film, starring Channing Tatum.
The first name on the list is Doug Liman. His long list of credits includes The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Edge of Tomorrow. He’s thoroughly versed in both sci-fi and action with a tinge of comedy, so it’s sound like he would be more than qualified. Also, the fact that he managed to extract a great performance out of Tom Cruise should somewhat allay the fears of Tatum’s doubters.
Next up is Joe Cornish. He’s relatively new to directing, with only a handful of TV episodes under his belt, and the 2011 film Attack the Block. However, he was also one of the primary writers on the Ant-Man script, so he has at least a little bit of comic book cred. But I can’t personally voice an opinion on him just yet.
The third name on the list is Shane Black. He helmed Iron Man 3, which may be a positive or a negative, depending on your opinion of that film. It at least means that he has experience not only with CBMs, but also in crafting a film around a cocky, wisecracking, ladies’ man wannabe, anti-hero character. He’s also been tapped to direct the next Predator film.
What do you think of these choices? Is there another director you think belongs on the list? Let us know in the comments!
