With Hugh Jackman stepping away from the Wolverine role, it was only a matter of time before other actors started lobbying for the part. Actor Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) made his stance known in a new interview with Screen Rant:
“I am a huge X-Men fan! My feeling about that is… I don’t know if I’m quite grizzly enough. My facial hair is still very thin and patchy. I feel someone who plays Wolverine potentially needs testosterone in abundance. Yeah, I’d love to have a go at it, but I don’t know. [Laughs] I don’t know. I was with Hugh the day that he announced his retirement from that role. I did joke about that very thing with him,” Egerton said. “But the phone hasn’t rang yet, my friend, so I don’t know.”
Perhaps if they do decide to reboot the character someday (fans would probably be against it) it would be best to go with a younger version of the character. I’ve seen some people want Tom Hardy for the role, but at this point, he’s not much younger than Hugh Jackman from a film standpoint.
According to the Marvel Database:
With a past shrouded in mystery, Wolverine’s memories are full of government secrets, traumatic events, and death. Remembering only escaping Weapon X and later joining Alpha Flight, the man known as Logan was approached with a chance to change the world, by Professor Charles Xavier. After joining Professor X’s X-Men, Wolverine has been using his mutant powers, to heal at an accelerated rate, enhanced physical condition, animal-like instincts, and razor sharp bone claws that protrude from between his knuckles laced with the indestructible metal Adamantium, to fight for the peaceful coexistence of mutants and humans most of his life.
Wolverine was created by Len Wein, John Romita and Herb Trimpe, first cameo appearence in Incredible Hulk #180 (Oct 1974) and first full appearence in Incredible Hulk #181 (Nov 1974). Since then, Wolverine has been one of the most well-known and popular Marvel Comics characters rivalling Spider-Man and Hulk, throughout his entire publication history and even in other media.
