In a recent photo by Vanity Fair, Andy Serkis, known for his roles of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings franchise and Ceasar in the Planet of the Apes films, is seen once again in all motion capture technology as his role in the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been revealed. Serkis will be playing Supreme Leader Snoke in the highly anticipated sci-fi flick. Serkis’s role was highly speculated and was among the debate of whether he would once again be doing his famous motion capture or would be a literal actor. It was also speculated which side Serkis’s character would be on as it was revealed that the voice in the first trailer was that of Serkis. Now it appears pretty emphatic that he will be playing the villain, possibly the main head honcho.
In this writers opinion, this seems like it could lead to an Admiral Thrawn resemenblce as Thrawn was a blue skinned alien. Thrawn was the main antagonist in the acclaimed Timothy Zahn trilogy which many fans considered to be canon until Disney wiped the slate clean. But Thrawn was always considered a fan favorite villain and I wouldn’t be surprised if Serkis’s Snoke bears some similarity to the blue skinned Admiral.
Another possible theory is that Snoke could be the one in charge over Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren, the tri lightsaber guy. He could be the next Grand Moff Tarkin, controlling a powerful villain while he is in fact the real threat. Or he could simply be filling the void of Emperor Palpatine and be in fact another Sith Lord. But, at this point it is all speculation. All that we can confirm at this time is that Andy Serkis will be playing a motion capture character by the name of Supreme Leader Snoke.
