The internet has been pretty positive about Tom Hardy being cast as Venom in Sony’s upcoming solo film. Though, many still have their doubts about a Venom film without Spider-Man, seeing as how he’s a crucial character to Venom, but then again it is Sony we’re talking about here.
Even if the Venom movie completely sucks, it’ll still be better than Spider-Man 3 – which featured Topher Grace as Eddie Brock. Yeah. Again, it’s Sony we’re talking about here.
As he always does, BossLogic offered some fan art depicting Hardy as the character – and it looks pretty cool.
Check it out below:
Not many details are known about the film, but here’s what we do know so far, taken from the THR report:
“Sony has ensnared a star and director for its Spider-Man offshoot, Venom.
Tom Hardy, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work in The Revenant, is in final negotiations to star in Venom, while Ruben Fleischer, best known for directing Zombieland, is final negotiations to helm the movie project centering on one of Spider-Man’s signature villains.
The project is one of Sony’s top priorities and the studio is not wasting time as the movie is set to open Oct. 5, 2018.”
Here’s hoping it’s good, but I also have some serious doubts that the movie will actually even happen. I’d be surprised if I was sitting in a theater on October 5th, 2018 watching it. Who knows, though? Crazier things have happened.
A Venom movie without Spider-Man doesn’t sound like a recipe for success, though.
