Marvel’s marketing promotions for Secret Empire have been making some interesting talk as of late, going from the controversial Hydra shirts to be worn by comic retailers to even the bare bones story of beloved characters like Captain America and Magneto turning into Hydra agents. This next stunt of theirs feels like more a jab of social commentary than the last ones…
Politics and comics have decided to collide yet again as Marvel, owning the domain rights of Hail-Hydra.com, now redirects the website to the official .gov website of the White House, particularly to the profile page of our current president Donald J. Trump.
Hydra, originating from the Nazis in Marvel comics, is a terrorist organization whose faction focuses on global domination. Created back in the 60s by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, they are notorious opponents for the likes of many Marvel heroes, especially one iconic Captain America whose recent twist in the comics have unveiled him as a sleeper agent of the organization (as well as furthered memes of “Hail Hydra” becoming much more relevant).
There really is no point talking all the infamous reports going around regarding Trump as there are too many to count, but the joke of it all seems to the racial division and “Make America Great Again” may have relation with the comic series and its “One dream” of Hydra. As stated before, Hydra is identified as a branch of the Nazis in the comics, and with neo-Nazis and paranoid xenophobes coming out more openly since Trump’s ideology, it doesn’t exactly stray far of the real world resemblance.
Let’s see if this makes it down to Trump’s complaint tweets this week.
