For those of you who don’t remember, there was a Ren & Stimpy reboot back in 2003 called ‘Ren & Stimpy: Adult Part Cartoon’. It aired on Spike and only lasted about 5 episodes before being cancelled. It was nothing like the classic show, and if you haven’t seen it, you aren’t missing out on much.
Back in 2015, it was announced that Nickelodeon would be rebooting the Nicktoons and giving them a feature movie. It was widely assumed that Ren & Stimpy would be included, but according to co-creator Bob Camp, that isn’t the case.
While speaking directly to us at Wizard World Cleveland, Camp gave us some insight on what exactly is going on with the characters:
“They’re rebooting the Nicktoons without Ren and Stimpy. We actually pitched a Ren and Stimpy movie to Paramount, they wanted nothing to do with it. [Adult Party Cartoon] poisoned the well. I think it really left a sour taste in everyone’s mouth. I had nothing to do with that one. And now, someone [at Paramount] doesn’t want anything to do with Ren and Stimpy.”
When asked if he’d be interested in bringing the characters back, Camp said:
“I’m always interested – but no one else seems to be.”
He also said he has a few new projects in the works. You can follow him on Facebook.
While not really a surprise given the terrible quality of the 2003 show, I think it’s safe to say that no one (outside of mega fans) even remembers the show. A Nicktoons reboot without those two characters would surely make a few people mad.
