Fan-made movie trailers are just the best, aren’t they? The really good ones are anyway. There’s just something infinitely cool about seeing all sorts of potential cinematic scenarios play out in a manner that gets you excited for something that will never come out.
In the same way the trailer for Logan gets you pumped up for Hugh Jackman’s last, decidedly R-rated, hurrah as the character, this fan-made trailer by YouTuber Alex Luthor about the Man of Steel and the Incredible Hulk going head to head, can excite you about a mere idea, presenting a tantalizing vision of what could possibly be.
On a technical level alone this fan-made trailer is very impressive, not only a great showcase of fluid editing between many completely different films, but also as a one-man VFX show by superimposing characters into the same shot, the effect is very impressive, if a bit shaky at times.

A distinction must always be made, because while the child in me would love to see the Hulk and Superman go toe to toe on the big screen, that doesn’t necessarily mean that should happen. Putting the rights issues aside, basing a 2 hour blockbuster around two immortal men punching each other is a recipe for disaster. A visually impressive disaster, but a disaster nonetheless.
Maybe that’s for the best. Fan-made trailers make up a wonderfully weird and quirky corner of the internet. They’re not genuine pitches and suggestions for upcoming films, no matter what their comment sections may suggest. They’re a showcase of these fans’ abilities, to pick and choose, and string together a chain of clips from many different products and properties. And to do so in such a perfect manner so as to make us think, for a moment, that these could be films that we’d want to see.
The skill to pull that off is admirable, and I’ll continue to keep watching and be amazed by these fan-made trailers entirely on their own merit.
