Since the cast of Thor: Ragnarok was announced a few months ago, we’ve all been super stoked to see how the new characters would translate to the screen. Joining Thor, Loki, Odin, Heimdall, and Lady Sif & the Warriors Three, there’s Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Karl Urban’s Skurge, and Cate Blanchett’s Hela, who looks to be the big bad in this one.
And now, we might just have our first look at the lady of the underworld. Wendy Kingston, of Australia’s Gold Coast News, posted a picture on Twitter from the first day of filming. In it, we see a large, grand staircase, with several people standing on it. Mostly crew, and what looks like two Asgardians. But the woman in green, sitting in a chair on the landing, is the interesting part here. Hela is usually depicted wearing green in the Thor comics.

The woman in question is wearing what appears to be a skintight green bodysuit, with her shoulders exposed. Long black gloves and tall black boots are also visible. What’s not seen here is the elaborate headdress the character often wears in the comics. It’s possible that she’s just not wearing it at this particular moment, since they’re obviously between shots, and that thing has to be heavy. Of course, it’s also possible that the film simply isn’t going to use that part of her costume, although I think that would be a disappointment to all of us.
In Norse mythology, Hela, or Hel, is the daughter of the trickster Loki and the giantess Angrboda. She is the ruler of The Kingdom of the Dead, which is where the souls of those who didn’t die a heroic death go. (Heroes go to Valhalla.) It’s not yet known, however, if this will be the character’s backstory in the film.
What do you think at this first look at the Ragnarok set, and our main villain? Let us know in the comments!
