Friday the 13th is an epic franchise that’s currently spanned through 12 films since its conception in 1980. It has seen a variety of protagonists, antagonists, and settings, including a crossover with A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger. Jason Voorhees has been from Crystal Lake to Manhattan to Hell and back. His mother Pamela Voorhees made her mark in the franchise’s first film as the sympathetic-yet-terrifying mother who wanted to avenge her little boy, Jason. And yet, despite all of these twists and turns, the series still has not revealed one major aspect – Jason’s father.
Hinted at in the series, and originally set to appear in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, not much is known about the character. That’s set to change as Aaron Guzikowski’s script for the new Friday the 13th reboot will finally include Jason’s father, to what capacity is not known, although it can be presumed he will appear in more than just a cameo.
Given that producer Brad Fuller described the film as “origin-ish”, we’ll likely see from Jason’s dad what connections he has to his son Jason and wife Pamela, who was the murderer in the original film as mentioned above. And, it appears we will see changes in the original origin so we can’t predict too much regarding how these characters will now be portrayed.
Friday the 13th slashes its way through theaters on January 13, 2017.
