Another dramatic backlash has been caused by the people of Hollywood for the Ghostbusters reboot, this time in the form of comedian Judd Apatow.
Apatow, writer of comedies such as This Is 40 and the 40 Year Old Virgin, personally defended the new Ghostbusters reboot, which has been subject to much controversy with both sexism and the quality of the two trailers (more than likely the latter), comparing the fans to supporters of Republican party member Donald Trump, who is running for president with his own record of controversy.
“I would assume there’s a very large crossover of people who are doubtful Ghostbusters will be great and people excited about the Donald Trump candidacy. I would assume they are the exact same people. That movie is made by the great Paul Feig and stars the funniest people on Earth, so I couldn’t be more excited. I think people have paid too much attention to just some angry trolls. And it will be judged on its own greatness. I don’t think anything really matters the way you think it does. The movie comes out, and it will be great, and people will just be happy to have it. It’s not like anybody really cares about a couple of idiots who hold onto the idea that things never evolve. I always think, you know, we have our past and if you can come up with a new, cool way to do something, then that’s exciting and hopefully it will make a lot of people happy.”
Apatow is not the first to deliver arguments regarding the film from Hollywood. Since the reveal of both trailers and its negative reception, the film has received much critical panning for both impressions. Director Paul Feig has went on to call geeks “a-holes” who spoke against the film. Melissa McCarthy, star of the film, has also stated people disliking the film should “go find a friend”. James Rolfe, best known for his Cinemassacre productions and creator of the acclaimed Youtube series The Angry Video Game Nerd, has received backlash over his choice to not review this film by the likes of Patton Oswalt, Dane Cook and even harsh comments from “journalists” targeting his wife.
And yet the film hasn’t even come out yet.
Ghostbusters comes to theaters July 15, where you, the audience, can officially state by then whether the film is worth seeing or not.
